The Walking Liberty design, introduced in 1916 and created by Adolph A. Weinman, was one of two designs submitted to the United States Mint that year. Ultimately, both of his designs were selected for different denominations.

This iconic image originally appeared on the US Half Dollar from 1916 to 1947. It was later reintroduced in 1986 on the American Silver Eagle bullion coin, where it still graces the obverse today.
