This striking platinum coin honors the Year of the Snake, which is the sixth animal in the Chinese lunar calendar.
According to tradition, the emperor once held a grand race among all the animals to decide their positions in the lunar calendar. To finish the race, each animal had to cross a fast-moving river. The horse, chasing the dragon in fifth place, was startled to find a snake coiled around its hoof. In its surprise, the horse reared up, giving the snake a chance to slip past and claim sixth place.
People born under the Chinese Lunar Snake sign in 2025, 2013, 2001, 1989, and similar years are thought to be wise, intelligent, independent, and charming. They are often seen as passionate and articulate, which makes them great leaders.
The Perth Mint plans to make no more than 5,000 of these 2025 Year of the Snake 1 oz platinum coins. Production will end once they’re all sold or when the series concludes, whichever comes first.
